Remember that Jessica Simpson remake of 'These Boots Are Made for Walking?' Well in Zach Bonner's case it should be his sneakers! On May 11, 2009, Zach started a 668-mile-walk from Atlanta, Georgia to Washington, D.C. - and he's still walking! Now we know what you are thinking... WHY would anyone be crazy enough to walk all those miles?! The answer is simple. He walks for a cause he is passionate about: Homeless Kids.
Zach Bonner first started charity work at age six. After Hurricane Charley in Florida in 2004, he collected food and water for the survivors of the storm. From there he wanted to help even more people and took on the cause of homeless youth. He started a foundation called Little Red Wagon Foundation and began raising money, hosting parties for homeless kids, and collecting and donating backpacks and other supplies.
Zach decided that he needed to call more attention to the more than 1.3 million homeless kids in this country. To do this, he first walked from Tampa to Tallahassee. His 280-mile-walk got lots of attention and raised wagonfulls of funds for his cause! Then he did a second walk from Tallahassee to Atlanta. Now he wants to finish the walk by making it all the way to Washington, D.C. so he can meet with President Obama. Along the way he is collecting letters of support so he can show the president how important it is to help homeless youth.
