When Alec Loorz was 12, he saw the documentary film "An Inconvenient Truth" about global warming and, like most of us, he freaked out. The film, made by former Vice President of the United States, Al Gore, is about how climate changes have our beautiful planet in danger and, for Alec, the message "really changed my life," Alec told tonic.com. "I knew I was being called to stop global warming within my lifetime."

After seeing the movie Alec didn't just shrug his shoulders and go on playing Xbox or Wii, or head over to the mall to hang with his buds and forget about our sad, endangered planet. Instead, Alec decided to take action. In a BIG way. He decided to fight global warming and climate change...head on!

Alec founded a nonprofit group called Kids vs. Global Warming (cool name!) and he used his film and gaming talents to create some uber-awesome, multimedia presentations that explained - in very kid-friendly ways - exactly what global warming was and how it's related to our climate and the way we take care of the planet.

Alec is now 14. And last fall his efforts caught the attention of the former V.P. himself - Al Gore! The Vice Prez formally invited Alec to become trained as a Climate Project (Gore's very own organization) presenter. Alec is the youngest member ever to be asked into that group. As a member, Alec travels around the country (and the world!) speaking about global warming and especially his latest project: S.L.A.P. (Sea Level Awareness Project).

Maybe you've seen one of Alec's S.L.A.P. poles? They can be found at the beach...

Alec has placed S.L.A.P. poles on beaches around the world to predict how high the sea level might go if people don't take care of the environment. Each pole has a bar across the top that says, "You will be underwater here." It's pretty scary, and it definitely makes you want to think twice about littering or polluting, that's for sure!

Last May, Alec was Al Gore's guest at the Climate Project North American Summit and you can read about that and everything else amazing and environmentally incredible about this empowering teen at his official website, www.kids-vs-global-warming.com
