Prepare to be jealous!!

Malia and Sasha Obama are back at school now (okay, you're probably not jealous about that).

But the girls had an AMAZING summer that had them traveling to Paris, London, Rome, Africa, the Grand Canyon, Yellowstone National Park and more.

And we thought they had some pretty good perks living at the White House...we're beginning to think the biggest perk is all the trips away from Washington that they get to take - and on Air Force One!

Shortly after school ended in June, Malia and younger sister Sasha began a series of exciting trips that should now really be grouped together and referred to as the "Malia and Sasha Summer Tour '09!"

Here's the rundown on all the passport stamps Sasha and Malia collected this summer...starting with their trip to Paris and London!

First up was a trip with First Lady Mom to meet up with President Dad in Paris for a few days. They got to see the Eiffel Tower, Notre Dame and the Louvre and Pompidou Center museums. If you're thinking, well, any kid can do're right! But can any kid also have lunch at the Elysee Presidential Palace with French President Nicolas Sarkozy and his wife? Probably not.

From Paris, the girls went to London, where surely they thought Big Ben, Westminster Abbey and the Tower of London were way cool. But even cooler? They got to visit the set of the latest Harry Potter movie and Sasha (who celebrated her 8th birthday while she was there) was presented with a birthday cake by Harry Potter himself, Daniel Radcliffe. They also saw the London theatre production of "The Lion King" and did we mention the girls got a royal tour of Buckingham Palace AND got to meet Queen Elizabeth?

Next up - Italy, Africa, The Grand Canyon and the beach!

In Moscow, the girls visited the Kremlin and walked the hallways in their matching trench coats. The President joked to the Chicago Sun-Times, "You know they're great travelers. Sasha was walking down one of the halls of the Kremlin yesterday. She had her trench coat on, had her pockets in her trench coat. We called her Agent 99, she just looked like she knew where she was going. I thought she was going to pull out her shoe phone."

In Rome, Sasha and Malia met the pope. (Of course they did! Doesn't everybody meet the pope when they go to Rome?!? LOL!) They also visited the Colosseum and the Pantheon – which everybody actually does do. But probably most fun was learning how to make blueberry and banana gelato at Giolitti, Rome's most famous ice cream parlor.

Recently we posted about Selena Gomez and her trip to Ghana as a UNICEF ambassador. So you already know that the situation there is not very pleasant. There is a lot of poverty in Ghana. And there is a sad history to that African country, as well. Both Malia and Sasha visited the Cape Coast Castle in Accra, Ghana when they were there. The castle used to be a holding cell for Africans shipped into slavery.

The Wild, Wild West

In August, the Obamas were on the road again – this time headed West to Yellowstone National Park and the Grand Canyon. It was a "working" vacation for the President, but he got to spend some quality vacay time with the girls, too! They also went whitewater rafting in Montana!

Martha's Vineyard

At the month's end, the family spent the remaining days of summer vacation on the beach at Martha's Vineyard, then one final getaway at Camp David (the White House's official retreat) in Maryland. And now? It's back to being "Sidwellians" as all Sidwell students are called. Malia is now in 6th Grade at Sidwell Middle School, and Sasha is in 3rd Grade at the Lower School for two more years.

We wonder if they are happy to be back in class or wishing they were still traveling...
