New Moon's resident heartthrob Robert Pattinson is the face of Vanity Fair's December issue, and in the cover story, the mysterious British actor opens up about working with Kristen Stewart, squashes the romantic rumors and reveals that he's a little less confident than you'd imagine.

Despite being a huge international phenomenon and the the star of the most popular franchise around, Robert says he looks like "a cartoon character," and since one of his legs is longer than the other, he looks like "an idiot."

Um, what? Millions of people would have to disagree, Rob.

While everyone wishes Edward and Bella were a real-life couple, Robert told the magazine that he and Kristen are just "good friends." However, he respects his co-star tremendously.

"I think she's the best young actress around," he says. "She's influenced how I've done all the Twilight stuff. It's quite nice to have someone who is genuinely indifferent to the whole spectacle of everything."

Other actors had auditioned for the part of Edward, but Robert blew them all away, says Twilight director Catherine Hardwicke. "When Kris did the scenes with the other three guys, it wasn't happening," she recalls. "But when we did it with Rob and Kristen, it wasn't perfect, it was still raw and unformed ... but you could see that they had this nervous attraction and this pull towards each other. You could see the chemistry, and Kristen was adamant, [saying], 'I think he is by far the best.'"

Indeed he was!
