New Moon had a huge opening weekend! According to studio estimates, the film took in $140.7 million in three days. The second installment in the Twilight series raked in a total of $258.8 million worldwide, and broke the record for the biggest Friday opening ever by pulling in a stunning $72.7 million.
The three-day earnings also scored New Moon the third biggest opening of all time, coming in just behind The Dark Knight, which grossed $158.4 million, and Spider-Man 3, which took in $151.1 million, in their first three days.
Last year, Twilight made $69.6 million in its opening weekend. That means New Moon more than doubled the initial earnings of its predecessor!
According to box office reports, New Moon also overshadowed The Blind Side and 2012, which came in at No. 2 and and No.3, respectively, this weekend.
