Famous people? There's an app for that.
Celebrities are getting in on the iPhone craze by releasing their own apps with which fans can get access to exclusive photos, information and more. Lucas Till, Britney Spears and Twilight's Peter Facinelli are just a few of the many stars to jump on the tech bandwagon, all charging $1.99 for their apps. But is it worth it?
Paying for exclusive content isn't anything new -- plenty of stars have fan clubs that require membership fees -- but many people feel that celebs who charge their own devoted fans for access are in the wrong. However, celebrities maintain that they're providing their followers a service or reward by offering them content they wouldn't normally be able to get, even if it's at a cost.
In our recent interview with Lucas, the 19-year-old actor talks about his app, explaining its features and why he thinks it's worth downloading.
"It has exclusive pictures you can only get by looking at my application," he told JSYK. "I can post videos, and I can send voicemails...for all of the fans who buy it, so it's kind of cool."
Lucas's app also ties into the map function of the iPhone, allowing users to figure out how far they are from landmarks in the actor's life -- where he grew up, where he went to high school, etc.
"I can Twitter from there, too," he said.
