Last week, Taylor Swift, Justin Bieber, Adam Lambert, Rihanna and more hung out at New York's Skylight Studio to celebrate the launch of Vevo, a new music video website. The site is co-owned by Google, Sony, Universal and EMI, and plans to do for music videos what Hulu did for television. But will it work?
Just like Hulu, you can register on the site and build your own music video playlists, but right now there are only certain artists you can choose from since content is only provided from three of the four major labels. Business-wise, Vevo will offer a space for advertisers to capitalize on music videos, and will attempt to streamline where videos can be viewed on the Internet.
Back in the day, MTV was the No. 1 place to watch music videos, but the digital landscape has definitely changed since then. We'll have to wait and see if Vevo is here to stay.
