Long Beach Middle School in Lido Beach, New York is the winner of 92.3's Justin Bieber food drive contest, earning a private concert with the 15-year-old singer. The school collected over 27,000 pounds of canned goods, while the New York radio station's contest as a whole brought in over 150,000 pounds of food to benefit local food banks.
"I am so proud right now," Justin wrote on his Facebook page. "Our food drive in NYC tristate area raised over 150 THOUSAND POUNDS of food for families in need this holiday season! You all made a difference and I thank u!! This is what it's all about. happy holidays!!"
Over 150 high school and middle schools in the tri-state area participated in the food drive, but Long Beach Middle School's principal Audrey Goropeuschek said her students really "sprung into action" when they heard about the contest.
"Students made over 100 signs, stood for hours on the weekends outside local markets asking shoppers to donate food, spent their allowance money on canned food, raided their parents' pantry cabinets and carried heavy back packs full of donations to school each day in November," she explained. "I am so proud that our students will help feed many Long Beach families during the holiday season."
