An 18-year-old Philadelphia student was suspended last week for wearing a Santa Claus suit to school, reports Tween Tribune. Michael Hance received one day of suspension for "defiance of authority," Strath Haven High School said in a statement.
Just days before Christmas, Michael Hance says he told his principal he planned to wear the costume and hand out candy canes for the holiday. The principal discouraged Michael, saying that it would be a distraction.
The high school senior ended up wearing the suit to school despite what his principal said, and was suspended during his first class on Tuesday. Michael maintains that detention would have been a more appropriate punishment.
