Breaking Dawn might be coming out in 3D, but should it? According to The Hollywood Reporter, Summit Entertainment will have to make a decision about the technology by the end of the month, and while it would be awesome to see Jacob lunging toward us in full werewolf mode, we think 3D is in danger of being played out.
There have been plenty of 3D releases in recent years, but thanks to Avatar, everyone is jumping on the 3D train. Alice in Wonderland, Toy Story 3, Stretch Armstrong and many more forthcoming releases will be available for viewing with those one-size-fits-all glasses, and as Avatar has made over $667 million in the U.S. (and counting), there's no telling when this trend will end.
Part of the reason why 3D is cool is because we haven't seen it used very often. If every action film arrives with the technology, it won't be special anymore. Then there's the rising ticket costs. Filming in 3D costs more, therefore ticket prices are higher. Slap on the IMAX experience and you're looking at a serious chunk of your allowance to just go to the movies -- and that's not including popcorn!
Production companies should be more selective about the use of 3D in their films, if they want us to keep coming back for more. With that said, we can't think of anything more exciting than the possibility of seeing Edward and Bella up close and personal.%Poll-41779%%Poll-41783%
