Mervis Diamond Importers has announced their production of the world's first diamond iPad, which cost $19,999.00 and will be available in June. But is this blinged out device hot or not?
We think not. While we love all things sparkly, we think the diamond-encrusted iPad is a little much. Yes, it's pretty, but a regular iPad is expensive enough, starting at $499. Now this gem version costs as much as a brand-new car.
The 11.43 carats of diamonds explains the price tag, but this is a bedazzled item we can live without. You can't take the device anywhere, unless you want to run the risk of getting robbed, and what fun is an iPad if you can only use it at home?
Also, think about your first phone or iPod and how many new versions have come out after those models. When technology advances so quickly these days, a diamond iPad will eventually turn into a very expensive and outdated artifact. It'll look great in a glass case, but it won't be so fun to use down the line. In this case, we'll pass.
