Are Blinged-Out Gadgets Becoming Played Out?
First we saw the diamond-encrusted iPad. Then came the diamond Disney cell phone. Now thanks to CrystalRoc, there's another sparkly iPad creation on the market, only this time it's embellished with 6,000 Swarovski crystals.
CrystalRoc has made a name for itself by blinging out musical instruments like microphones, guitars, and drums. They've also made Swarovski crystal iPods and headphones, so the crystal-encrusted iPad is a natural progression for the U.K. brand. The item will be available in April, but no price has been set.
We said it before and we'll say it again -- we love shiny things, but these extra expensive items are getting out of hand. Even though the CrystalRoc iPad isn't made of diamonds, Swarovski crystals still cost a pretty penny, and will undoubtedly drive up the price of $499 iPad.
With all these products on the market, diamonds and crystals are going to be quickly played out, if they aren't already. The trend is great in moderation, but these super attention-grabbing devices run the risk of ruining the look for those who just want to rock a little bit of bling. So, to the companies who are considering coming out with jeweled laptops or crystallized backpacks, we hope you'll think twice. %Poll-43527%
