In a recent interview with NME, M.I.A. said she was asked to write and record a song for the Twilight soundtrack, however, the alternative hip-hop artist turned the offer down. In hindsight, did M.I.A. make the right decision?

Both the Twilight and New Moon soundtracks included original songs by top artists such as Death Cab For Cutie, OK Go and Paramore, just to name a few. According to Soundscan, the Twilight soundtrack has sold over 2.5 million copies in the U.S. while the New Moon soundtrack has sold over 1 million copies to date.

Although M.I.A. did not contribute music to the vampire series, she did agree to let her song 'Paper Planes' be used in the Slumdog Millionaire soundtrack, and she sang on the song 'O...Saya', which was also featured in the film. Although the 'Slumdog' soundtrack has sold just under 390,000 copies, 'O...Saya' was nominated for an Oscar for Best Original Song.
And get this: Dev Patel, the lead in Slumdog Millionaire, is starring in the new movie The Last Airbender with Twilight's Jackson Rathbone. So even though M.I.A. didn't contribute a song to Twilight, she's still only separated from it by two degrees! What do you think? Did M.I.A. make the right decision in turning down the Twilight soundtrack? %Poll-44148%
