Romaine Robert Quinn is just like any other freshman at UW-Barron County College...except that when he's not hitting the books, he's the mayor of a town in northwestern Wisconsin called Rice Lake.
"I've talked to a lot of my friends and they still don't know why I'm doing it, but I've had a lot of support, so why not?" Romaine dishes.
At 19, he's the youngest mayor the town has ever elected, although he's already spent almost a year on the City Council. Romaine, who defeated the previous mayor by earning 53% of the vote, says he's excited to start balancing the budget.
"Your age doesn't necessarily give you the qualities that are necessary to lead and that's what this position's about and I think it's moving forward with the quality of actually listening to people," he notes.
"[Politics] was something I've always enjoyed hearing about the issues, what's going on, and being concerned about other people's situations," Romaine continues.
