Michelle Obama's call to get American children more active and healthy is getting backing from a non-profit group of over one hundred retired military leaders called Mission: Readiness.

The group claims that nine million young adults ages 17-24 are too overweight to meet the standard requirements to enlist. Weight problems are now considered the number one medical reason why recruits are declined. Having less active military men and women, in turn, creates a threat to our country's national security.

Mission: Readiness also cites research that says "in the last decade, the number of states with 40 percent or more of young adults considered to be overweight has risen from one state to 39 states."

Wow, that's a crazy increase! So what's the solution? Well research also shows that kids receive almost half of their daily calories while at school. Mission: Readiness is pushing to reduce those numbers by cutting the junk foods and sodas and bringing in more nutritious lunches.
