Justin Bieber's Fans Outsmart Twitter's Trending Topics Update

Last week, Twitter updated the algorithm that's responsible for determining what's in its Trending Topics list. The change, Mashable reports, shifted the focus "from the most discussed items to what is 'most breaking' and 'immediately popular.'"

The update, however, immediately knocked Justin Bieber off the Trending Topics list, where he almost permanently resided. Naturally, the 16-year-old singer was not happy. "Wow...Twitter I thought we had a good thing going," Justin wrote on his Facebook page on Friday. "Can't help it that I have the greatest fans in the world."

Two days later, the Canadian pop star's fans found a way to beat the system, proving why Beliebers shouldn't be underestimated. Since Twitter's new algorithm hones in on the "hottest emerging trends" and "topics of discussion," Beliebers started spelling Justin's name as Twieber or Jieber to get around the update. As a result, Twieber is back on the top Trending Topics list.
This super smart move isn't just being used by Bieber fans -- Jick Nonas is currently trending as well. Have you guys changed your Twitter lingo to help your favorite stars trend again? What do you think about Twitter's new Trending Topics update? Was it aimed at Justin?
