Ian Somerhalder recently visited his hometown in Louisiana to get a first-hand look at the damage from the BP oil spill, and he is not happy. In fact, the Vampire Diaries star is urging Hollywood celebs to join forces and organize a telethon to help raise money for cleanup efforts.

"Coming from the entertainment world, I'm really shaken by how quiet Hollywood is. And I say that out of respect for my peers and colleagues, but I'm really bummed that no one is really coming up to help the situation," he tells E! Online. "I think a telethon is a good way to funnel money into these channels. We need to set one of those things up to really paint a picture of exactly how much devastation is here."

In January, George Clooney organized Hope For Haiti Now, a star-studded telethon, which raised $57 million for earthquake relief efforts. A similar celeb event could do the same to help clean up the Gulf Coast and other areas devastated by the BP oil spill. In the meantime, Ian is lending his support to St. Tammany's Humane Society, a Covington, La. animal shelter that's been caring for spill-affected pelicans.
"This is ground zero right now," he says. "I'm looking at this slick of oil. I've been watching pelicans die. This place is going to need money, that is the bottom line - money in the right hands to replant these marshes. [It] really breaks my heart..." %Poll-48208%
