Avatar has already been released on DVD, and made $2.7 billion worldwide at the box office, but now the film is returning to theaters with an additional eight minutes of never-before-seen footage. The question is, would you pay to see the movie again?
Twentieth Century Fox announced on Thursday that the special edition of Avatar will open on August 27, and be available exclusively in digital 3D and IMAX 3D. Director James Cameron says the extra scenes will take place on Pandora, and feature new creatures and action sequences. "Audiences repeatedly told me they wanted more of Pandora and wished they could have stayed there longer," he explains.
Fans of the film may be enticed by the extended version, but as 3D ticket prices rise, some may think twice about watching the movie in theaters again. However, those who missed out on the theater experience will now have a second chance to get in on the incredible 3D action.
Will you head to the theater to see Avatar again? Is it worth the price and time (the new version of the movie is just shy of three hours) to see the extra scenes? Or are you good with missing out on those eight minutes of footage?
