One thing we love about The Vampire Diaries is that they'll kill off any character at any moment (sorry, Vicky). We guess that means don't get too attached to the new girl, a graduate student at Duke named Vanessa (Courtney Ford).

The brainy brunette will help Damon, Alaric, and Elena sort through Isobel's old research in the third episode. What could they be hoping to find? The show's co-executive producer Kevin Williamson reveals that Vanessa is "not without her own intrigue. And it's a part that could evolve into this massive story line or we'll just gut her like a fish."

See what we meant.
Vampire Diaries won't waste any time picking off Mystic Falls residents in season two. Kevin confesses, "The cast is a little skittish because they know that people die. There will be blood in the very first episode because we left several lives in the balance."
Do you think John survives Katherine's knife attack?
