On Monday, the 27-year-old singer-songwriter announced the release date for the forthcoming record through a personal video message to his fans, which he posted on his website. "I want to let you guys know, the fans, that I'm super stoked to be announcing my debut album 'Pipe Dreams,'" Mark says. "I've been waiting for a long time to get it out to you guys and I hope you really feel it and enjoy it."
The Glee star's original goal was to break into the music business, so when he says he's been waiting a "long time," he's referring to the seven years it took to record 'Pipe Dreams.' But don't expect to hear any showtunes or covers on this album -- it's filled with original songs that were written, performed and produced by Mark himself.
So what will his music sound like? Well, fans get to hear a tiny sample of what's in store from the song playing in the background of the video, but according to Mark's website, 'Pipe Dreams' channels early classic rock, alternative and "a '60s folk-beat era sound." The star looks up to songwriters like Thom Yorke (Radiohead), Trent Reznor (Nine Inch Nails) and Eddie Vedder (Pearl Jam), so we'll probably hear those influences on the album, too.
Although the multi-instrumentalist calls 'Pipe Dreams' his debut, Gleeks may recall that Mark released another solo record in 2008 called 'Smoke Signals' under the pseudonym Jericho. We can't wait to hear the songs he's now releasing under his real name. Watch Mark's record announcement video below and get ready for the release of 'Pipe Dreams' on October 12.
