Yesterday, Justin teased his fans, tweeting, "@mtv I think we got some big news to tell everyone tomorrow. Good stuff." Then on Wednesday morning, Justin shared the official news with the world on Facebook. "Just a small town kid livin a dream thanks to all of u," he wrote. "Last year i went to the VMA's and no one knew who i was. and it is now official. This year we are gonna PERFORM!! Incrediblly [sic] grateful! Livin a dream. thanks!"
The 16-year-old pop star is only nominated for one award, but it's a big one: Best New Artist. B.o.B, on the other hand, racked up five noms, including Video of the Year for 'Airplanes,' his collaboration with Paramore's Hayley Williams. The two chart-toppers will join the likes of Kanye West, Drake and Florence + The Machine, who are also taking the stage at the star-studded event.
"I'm excited to be performing at the VMAs..." Justin said in a press release. "...Just really shows that dreams can come true and what incredible dedicated fans I have. I'm a lucky guy and grateful. Now I just want to get on that stage, have some fun in front of my heroes because at the end of the day I'm still a kid, and still a fan."
Justin will likely perform 'Baby' since it scored him his VMA nomination, but we're still holding out for a Bieber/Kanye collabo that night. There's always the possibility for a 'My World' medley, too. We're also hoping B.o.B. will have Hayley come out on stage for a live rendition of 'Airplanes,' but we'll just have to wait to find out what happens. The 2010 MTV Video Music Awards will air live from Nokia Theater in L.A. on Sunday, September 12 at 9 p.m.
