Nathaniel Hawthorne probably never expected that his novel 'The Scarlet Letter' would be the inspiration behind a high school comedy, but Easy A is ready to crack audiences up with a new spin on the themes from the classic tale.
In the film, Emma Stone plays Olive, who's not exactly high on the social ladder at her school, but after she pretends to lose her virginity to her gay friend Brandon (Dan Byrd), her popularity skyrockets. Other guys soon discover what she did and ask her for the same favor, only the girls in her class are not happy with all the attention Olive is getting.
The mean girls in her school start lashing out, but Olive responds by smugly wearing a red letter 'A' on her clothes. If you've read Hawthorne's book in English class, you know that its main character, Hester Prynne, commits adultery and is forced to wear the same branding her chest.
We think the film is going to be hilarious, and are psyched to see Penn Badgley break out of the Dan Humphrey mold. Also, if the movie is enough to get Amanda Bynes to, um, "unretire" from acting, it had better be good. Check out the trailer and photos from the film below. Easy A opens in theaters on September 17.
