Justin Bieber played the part of his own hype man in the weeks leading up to the 2010 Video Music Awards, and in the end, the 16-year-old pop star totally delivered with a killer 'My World' medley and a two other key appearances at the annual event on Sunday night.

Sure, there were plenty of other stars to gawk at during the awards show, but Beliebers all over were waiting to see the Canadian heartthrob take the stage outside of the Nokia Theater as promised. The performance was actually pre-taped, but JB pulled out all the stops for his four-minute medley, which included 'U Smile,' 'Baby,' and 'Somebody to Love.'

Justin was dressed in a Bieber varsity jacket, while his dancers wore red lettered sweaters. It was all about the choreography during his set, so much so that the Bieb kind of forgot to mouth his words and made it obvious he was lip synching, but the fans were too busy staring at Justin to care. The singer finished things off with a drum solo (did anyone see him lose his grip on that drumstick?) and an explosion of streamers and confetti.

Justin also starred in a vignette with VMA host Chelsea Handler in which she insisted the pop star was wearing a wig. Justin totally held his own and acted legitimately disturbed by the comedienne, who ended up chasing him out of the room trying to prove his hair was fake. Hilarious!

But Justin's biggest moment was his win for Best New Artist. As we said in our VMA recap, we knew JB had it in the bag, but it was still exciting to see the superstar on stage receiving it...that is, after he finally figured out how to get up there! Justin didn't prepare a speech, but thanked his mentor Usher, his manager and, of course, his fans. Check out more photos of the Bieb at the 2010 VMAs and watch his knockout performance below.
