Cher Lloyd is getting serious buzz right now as a contestant on 'The X Factor' which is like 'Idol,' but for residents in Great Britain and with fewer restrictions on the contestant's ages and also the ability for singing groups to participate as well as solo acts. Simon Cowell is a permanent judge; Katy Perry and Nicole Scherzinger have been guest judges.
The 16-year-old (some news outlets report she's 17) definitely has the surprise factor going for her - so far she's sung songs by R. Kelly, Soulja Boy (Turn My Swag On) and Coldplay.
'My name is Cher," she tells the judges in a recent audition clip. "I think I've got something special. And I'm ready for it."
Her rendition of Coldplay's 'Viva La Vida' in which she adds her own rap portion and changes the chorus into a rap is getting mixed reviews.
"I like that she's original and unique and she made it her own," guest judge Nicole Scherzinger said of her performance.
