Exclusive Song Premiere: Mayday Parade Covers Jason Derulo's 'In My Head'
Jason Derulo's 'In My Head' has, well, been stuck in our heads since the top of the year (especially when that hot Nicki Minaj remix came out), but now the pop rockers in Mayday Parade are putting a brand new spin on the single for the new 'Punk Goes Pop 3' compilation.
Think turning an R&B song into a rock jam is totally crazy? It actually makes a lot of sense. You may not be able to tell, but the original song is rooted in rock. If you listen closely, you'll hear heavy guitars and rock drum lines, so the Florida-based group had a good foundation to work with. Still, they were able to take the song to a whole new level.
"We love doing 'Punk Goes' because they're always such a blast to rearrange and record," guitarist Brooks Betts tells JSYK. "And because the songs are proven hits there's no pressure as to whether people will like them or not. Music is supposed to be fun and these covers are a blast."
Mayday Parade is no stranger to the 'Punk Goes' series -- the band has actually contributed three other recordings to past comps, including a cover of Queen's 'We Are the Champions,' a cover of the Pussycat Dolls' 'When I Grow Up' and an acoustic version of their own song 'Three Cheers for Five Years.'
Listen to the rockin' version of 'In My Head' below, and pre-order your copy of 'Punk Goes Pop 3' on iTunes now. You'll get it as soon as it's released on November 3. What do you think of Mayday Parade's cover? Is it hot or not?
