The Uniforms Are Cute, But Be Glad You Don't Go To 'Tower Prep'
If you mashed up I Am Number Four and Harry Potter, you might get something like Tower Prep. Debuting on Cartoon Network Tuesday, October 19th at 8 PM EST, the show follows a group of four students as they investigate the mysteries of their school while trying to escape from it.
Reason number one this show is cool... it's not a cartoon, even though it's on Cartoon Network. The show centers around several real teens played by Drew Van Acker, Elise Gatien, Ryan Pinkston and Dyana Liu, who attend a mysterious preparatory high school. Each of them has a secret power and Drew's character is just discovering what his is - that's the part that is kind of like 'I Am Number Four.' The school itself is a bit like Hogwarts in the sense that it's only for gifted students. But that's where the similarities end. The school is kind of creepy and its headmaster is no Prof Dumbledore. Yeah, we said it. We don't like him.
Turns out, Drew's character Ian Archer, you may remember Drew from The Lake, can see things before they happen which gives him time to react. His power is known as Preflex.
Elise plays C.J. Ward (a possible romantic interest for Ian?) and she has the ability to analyze anyone like a computer and know what they're thinking or feeling. Her power is known as Perception. Ryan's character, Gabe Forrest, has the ability to convince anyone to do anything by the sound of his voice - known as Hyper-suasion and Dyana is Suki Sato. She can imitate anyone's voice after hearing them - mimicry.
We have to be honest, we were a little confused while watching the first episode... but so was Ian. That's kind of the point, Ian doesn't know what's happening to him when he winds up at Tower Prep. And soon enough, Ian is in the middle of escape attempt #1 where he joins up with his soon to be pack of friends. Let's just say their first try doesn't work out. There's a dark forest involved and some pretty intimidating creatures and before we knew it the episode was over. But we're definitely willing to give episode two a watch.
