Big Time Rush have just released their debut album, 'BTR,' which features many songs you have and haven't heard on the hit Nickelodeon series. But beyond balancing the recording and filming schedule of the band, Kendall Schmidt is also a part of another musical project called Heffron Drive.
Heffron Drive is an electro-rock duo that Kendall started with his friend, Dustin Belt. The singer/actor is still writing music for the group, but due to the huge success of 'Big Time Rush,' he's had to put the project on hold for the time-being. Still, Kendall says being on the popular series has only helped benefit Heffron Drive.
"Dustin and I knew that as much as Big Time Rush was going to take away from our band, it was going to add to it, too...and it already has so much," Kendall tells JSYK. "The last few days we've had like 15,000 plays a day on MySpace. I remember when we first started the band, it was a miracle to get, like, 50."
Heffron Drive is a far cry from Big Time Rush's pop sound, but it's something that Kendall definitely wants to pursue. "If the band sucks, then people aren't going to listen to it," he says. "So, all the plays have really encouraged me that the music we were doing is really great, and it makes me want to keep working on it. I realized that I can have a band and have Big Time Rush."
But for now, to the relief of BTR fans, Kendall says he's concentrating on Big Time Rush "full force." Do you think Kendall should stick to making music with BTR or do you prefer his side project tunes?
