Jennette McCurdy Opens Up About 'Not That Far Away'
Jennette McCurdy has been busy working on her country music career, releasing her first EP, 'Not That Far Away,' and unveiling the video for its title track. Now, the iCarly star is opening up to our friends at Fanlala about her love of music and the inspiration behind her first single.
"I had always found so much inspiration through music, and I had always written songs just kind of by myself," Jennette says about her talent. "I knew some chords on the piano and knew my way around the guitar -- they say all you need is three chords and the truth, so I had that -- and I would just write on my own all the time. I would write poems and then I'd put melodies to them."
Jennette began co-writing songs with professional musicians at age 14, and used the Internet to blog about her experiences. She says her fans really wanted to hear what her music sounded like, so she released a song that grabbed the attention of record labels like Capitol with whom she eventually signed.
As for the first single and title track of the record, Jennette says she was inspired by being homesick while working on her craft. "I was in Nashville and really enjoying what I was doing, and excited for this new adventure -- everyday it's just something new and eventful and crazy," she recalls. "But how I really did miss my family, particularly my mom."
