Surfer Dillon Perillo Says He Stays in the Water and Away From Drugs
If you're a fan of 90210, you may have seen Dillon Perillo in action and not even known it. But the 19-year-old is more than a stunt surfer -- he was rated the No. 1 Pro Junior in North America in 2009 and is currently the face of Rip Curl North America.
Hailing from Malibu, Calif., Dillon has been faced with many opportunities to get mixed up with drugs, but he's chosen to stay out of trouble by staying in the water. Surfing is his true passion, and all his hard work has paid off with wins at the NSSA Open Juniors, Open Mens, Oakley Pro Junior, Ezekiel Pro Junior and OPJ Global Challenge Stop 5.
Although he made his Natural High video (kind of like the one Lauren Conrad starred in) a while ago, Dillon is still talking about his stance against drug use. "I think it's important [to tell my story] because most kids don't have people telling them 'no,'" he tells JSYK. "Some of them just don't realize the reality of it. They just need to get that message."
But while surfing distracts the Malibu High School alum from the negative stuff, other teens may not have access to the ocean. Still, Dillon says there are other ways to stay out of trouble. "If you don't have surfing, then any sport would work, like skateboarding or basketball," he says. "It doesn't have to be a sport -- it could be anything like filming or photography. Kids just need something to do or be interested in. That's why kids do drugs -- they have nothing to do."
Find out how Dillon and his family were affected by drugs, and why he chooses to stay clean in his Natural High video below.
