High School Track and Field Team Initials are WTF. Should They Stop Wearing Shirts with These Letters?
Members of Wakefield Track and Field are showing support for their team in a unique way. The Massachusetts high school's track team bears the initials WTF, and the team has been wearing sweatshirts with those three letters on the front.
Joan Landers, the superintendent of schools, wasn't familiar with the more popular interpretation of WTF, and stated that she doesn't want the students associated with vulgarity.
Not surprisingly, many students find the situation sort of amusing.
"It's kinda funny," says WTF sweatshirt owner Gregory Hampton-Boyd. "It throws people off because they look at it. WTF. It's inappropriate but at the same time it stands for something else."
From a marketing standpoint, these shirts could make a ton of money for the track team. However, it's not the classiest way to rep your school. How do you feel? Should the school keep the sweatshirts or tell students they're no longer allowed to wear them on Wakefield's property?
