Before doing flips and splits as Marti Perkins on Hellcats, Aly Michalka already had a successful music career as one half of the group Aly & AJ. Today, Aly and sister Amanda (better known as AJ) have a new band name, 78violet, and both girls are busy following their acting ambitions.

Aly recently opened up to JSYK's TV column, Lounging with Lauren about making music with her sister (talented gene pool much?), and also how difficult it is for the two besties to be apart while Aly's away filming Hellcats in Vancouver.

"My music is something that is extremely personal. It's something that can't really be compared to anything else, because it involves my sister and she's my everything," Aly tells me. Can you stand it? How cute are they?
So, is AJ Team Marti or Team Alice then? Like I even need to ask that one.

"[AJ] watches it every week," spills the California native. "It's really cool. She'll text me like, 'We're watching and having a Hellcats party.' She's the most amazing person ever."

AJ's also putting her own stamp on her sister's show -- check out the behind-the-scenes video of Aly and AJ recording the title song for Hellcats.

"The name of the song is called 'Belong Here,'" dishes the on-screen cheerleader in the video. "It's about inspiring people and about getting up and doing something with your life and not letting those obstacles get you down."

Plans for AJ to make a Hellcats cameo (cheerleader on a rival squad?) aren't in the works, but Aly still has plans to bring her sis , who came to visit while shooting the show's pilot episode, back to set -- "I can't wait to get her up here again. We'll have a blast." Do you have a sister? Are you close like Aly and AJ?
