Facebook announced that it will be launching a new face recognition feature for photos, which hopes to make the task of tagging easier for its users. The technology, much like Faces in Apple's iPhoto program, will be able to detect who's who whenever you upload new pics of previously identified friends.

According to Switched, whenever you upload a pic and want to tag people in it, Facebook's face recognition software will go into effect and give you a list of suggested names based on other photos. Once you've tagged a person, the site will automatically tag that person in any new photos, saving you time.

Of course, it can be annoying. Are you someone who doesn't like to be tagged? Do you frequently un-tag yourself? Then you can opt out of the new feature by disabling it in your Privacy Settings. This will only prevent the auto-tagging though -- friends can still tag you by entering your name manually, that is, unless you block them from doing so.

It's quite possible that the facial recognition technology could be inaccurate, but Facebook Vice President of Product Chris Cox says the site will only make hlghly confident suggestions. Let's hope so!

What do you think of the new Facebook feature? Is it something you're excited about or will you disable it as soon as you get the chance? Let us know what you think in the comments. %Poll-57520%
