Florida High School Basketball Player Throws Referee to the Ground
A Florida high school basketball player took matters into his own hands when he threw a referee to the ground on Monday after the official called a technical foul during the game. The entire incident was caught on film.
In the video, things are going smoothly in the contest between Desoto County High School and Port Charlotte High School. Then, at about 1:20 on the clip, Mason Holland shoves a player on the opposing team while running upcourt.
The whistle blows, and Mason gets in the ref's face. He pushes the official and attacks him again by picking him up and throwing him. The player was rushed off the court, and the game ended with Arcadia Desoto forfeiting to Port Charlotte.
The senior has since been suspended from school and banned from the team. "It was totally unacceptable behavior," DeSoto County coach Joe Sheridan told USA Today. "It was everything we are not, and now we have to recover from that with 12 very, very good boys. He'll never play here again. I've been coaching for 40 years, and I've never experienced anything like that. I'm still in shock."
