You Don't Always Love Getting a Gift Card. So What Do You Want?
Receiving a gift card for the holidays is an awesome present because you can buy something you really want, but be honest, would you rather just have the cash?
Sixteen-year-old Allie Sakowicz doesn't like when her gift is a plastic shopping card. "You're not going to make a special trip to use a $20 gift card to get something you didn't need in the first place," she explains. "And a lot of the gift cards are for dollar amounts that don't really buy you anything at the store -- $20 is not going to buy you anything at Macy's."
Some cards begin to decrease in value if you don't use them within a certain time (annoying!), and sometimes you're left with just a few dollars on a gift card so you end up forgetting about it -- therefore losing that money.
Rezart Bajraktari, founder Giftah.com, states, "There's a generation gap when it comes to gift cards. A lot of students end up with gift cards for Christmas from aunts, uncles, grandparents for things they can't use."
Did you use the gift cards you received last year? Are you hoping for more this year?
