The Most Annoying Word of 2010 is...
Quick: Think of the most annoying word your best friend, brother, or sister uses all the time. What is it?
Did you just say "whatever?"
A poll conducted by Marist College in Poughkeepsie, New York asked more than 1,000 people which word or phrase in the English language most bugged them. Thirty-nine percent said the nails-on-the-chalkboard winner was whatever, marking the second year in a row the word nabbed top irritating honors.
In second place with 29 percent of the vote was "like." Like for real. Fifteen-percent of respondents can't stand hearing the cringe-inducing phrase "you know what I mean."
"To tell you the truth" and "actually" ranked at the bottom of the poll's annoying-level scale.
Last year, other popular words and phrases that irked poll takers included "you know," "it is what it is," "anyway" and "at the end of the day."
Admit it, which of these words do you say way too much? %Poll-57636%
