Council Calls MTV's 'Skins' the 'Most Dangerous Show For Teens'
MTV is set to debut its new series 'Skins' on Monday, but there's one group who is not psyched about it. In a statement issued on Thursday, the Parents Television Council called the show "the most dangerous show for teens."
"Despite the MA-rating for 'Skins,' MTV appears to be deliberately targeting teens with its marketing campaign," PTC president Tim Winter said. "Skins may well be the most dangerous show for children that we have ever seen."
He continues, "The trailers we have seen thus far make sexual objects of almost every single one of its characters and asks not only for viewers to approve, but to actively participate by posting their own secret stories."
'Skins' is based on a U.K. series that follows a group of high school friends as they navigate through adolescence. Its trailers do depict partying, drug use and casual sex, but the subject matter is nothing we haven't seen before in other shows like 'Gossip Girl' and 'One Tree Hill.'
