Darren Criss Drops in on 'The Glee Project' Auditions in Dallas
We've been buzzing about 'The Glee Project' for a while, but now the singing competition has officially kicked off with the help of 'Glee' star Darren Criss. The actor showed up to the open casting call in Dallas, Texas last weekend to support the performers vying for a seven-episode guest-starring role in on the hit Fox series.
Darren greeted thousands of auditioners as they waited in line to show off their singing chops. The 23-year-old star dished out advice to hopefuls, conducted media interviews on site and posed for plenty of photos like the ones we have here.
"We are rooting for you, and we are so excited for you and we are so happy to be receptive of your talent," he said in a special video message posted before the open audition.
According to Reuters, more than 40,000 people have auditioned for 'The Glee Project,' a group that will be pared down to 12 finalsts. Ryan Murphy is one of the executive producers of the singing competition, which will air on Oxygen in June.
But don't expect a crazy audition process. The show, says executive producer Dante Di Loreto, is all about mentoring talent. "We are not trying to make complex challenges that make fun of people," he said. "We are not trying to make them jump through hoops without cause."
