Dog lovers shouldn't be surprised about this one. For the 20th straight year, the American Kennel Club has named the Labrador retriever the most popular dog in America.

The breed generally includes yellow and chocolate subtypes, and can maintain a healthy weight of up to 90 pounds. Mary-Kate Olsen, Drew Barrymore and Jennifer Garner are three celebs who love the breed and have labs of their own.
The second most popular dog is the German shepherd of which Miley Cyrus is a fan. As you may recall, she got a new German shepherd puppy named Mate last spring. Yorkshire Terriers came in third, while beagles and golden retrievers followed in fourth and fifth place.

The AKC also has added three new registered breeds to its list, including the Mexican breed Xoloitzcuintli, the Norwegian Lundehund and the Entlebucher Mountain Dog.

Check out the American Kennel Club's full list of 2010 breed rankings here. Do you have a dog? What kind is it? Take a look at these photos of celebs and their pets, and tell us all about your pup in the comments.
