Last year, Nick Jonas lent his star power to the cause, and now "pretty girl" Keri Hilson is helping our friends at DoSomething.org and VH1's Save the Music Foundation launch the 2011 Battle for the Bands contest, which supports music education in our public schools.

The Grammy-nominated R&B singer stars in a new PSA, which encourages students to enter the competition by submitting a music video of their orchestra, band or rap group. Can't play an instrument? You can also enter the contest by starting an advocacy campaign through starting a petition or writing an article for your school paper.
The top performer and advocacy campaign will each receive a $5,000 prize for their school to help improve its music program. As an added bonus, participants can text the word "BATTLE" to 30644 for submission tips, and be automatically entered to win an acoustic Fender guitar autographed by Keri herself.

You'll want to start practicing now, because the 2011 Battle for the Bands is officially open for submissions on March 1. Watch Keri's PSA below and get more info on the Battle at DoSomething.org.
