Nikki Yanofsky Gleeks Out Over Darren Criss Before MusiCares Person of the Year Gala
Nikki Yanofsky will be performing at the annual MusiCares Person of the Year gala tonight, but while the room will be filled with stars, she'll be gleeking out over one particular guest: Darren Criss.
Nikki is a huge fan of 'Glee' and will be sharing the stage with many other musicians, including Darren, Lea Michele and Matthew Morrison, to pay tribute to this year's honoree Barbra Streisand. Yesterday, however, the 17-year-old jazz singer got the thrill of her life when she met Darren at a rehearsal for the event.
"He was so sweet," she tells JSYK exclusively. "I told him I had just watched the latest episode of 'Glee' and that he was great. Plus, I told him how OBSESSED I am with the show. I was so surprised he actually knew who I was!"
We're not surprised. The jazz wunderkind's latest album, simply called 'Nikki,' has been certified gold in Canada, and hit No. 1 on Billboard's Top Heatseekers chart in the U.S. She has also been nominated for Vocal Jazz Album of the Year at the 2011 Juno Awards.
Nikki has had pre-show run-ins with John Mayer, Faith Hill and Phil Ramone so far, and even posted a photo of her, Darren and an all boys glee club on Twitter. "Great time!" she wrote. "I'm soooo excited for tomorrow!!"
Nikki is set to perform this evening, and is currently getting ready for the pre-Grammy event. However, she took the time to send one more tweet to her new 'Glee' buddy, proving that she's not only sweet and talented, but she's also a great friend.
"Hey @DarrenCriss!" she said. "Great meeting you yesterday. My friend @kira902k is ur biggest fan & in case I don't speak to you tonight, she says hi!!"
How cool is that? You can check out all the red carpet action of the MusiCares Person of the Year gala tonight at Grammy.com/live at 10:30 PM ET.
