Say Goodbye to Flip Cams. Are You Sad to See Them Go?
If you love your Flip video camera, you may want to take extra special care of it. On Tuesday, parent company Cisco announced that it would no longer be making the pocket-sized devices.
Cisco said in a statement that it will "close down the Flip business and support current FlipShare customers and partners with a transition plan." What's the reason behind this move? One word: smartphones.
These days, many smartphones come with built-in video cameras that shoot just as well (if not better) than Flip cams. Also, when products like the iPhone 4 come equipped with a great video camera and Wi-Fi, you can upload your video right away instead of having to got through the steps of plugging your Flip into your computer, downloading your video and then uploading to a site.
We still think the Flip is awesome, but it's true -- carrying it around in addition to an iPhone seems a little silly. It's a shame that it never evolved to include Wi-Fi.
But, if you don't have a phone with a video camera built into it, and have been lusting after a Flip, we suggest you buy one now. There are still plenty of them in stock in stores and online. Are you sad to see the Flip go? Let us know what you think in the comments. %Poll-62819%
