You may not know who Maria K is, but that's all about to change. The singer has teamed up with The Stereotypes -- the super-producer trio who have produced hits for the likes of Justin Bieber, Far East Movement and Chris Brown -- and is hard at work on her debut solo album.
Maria's first single is called 'Starbucks Smile,' a tune that expresses all the feelings that come with being smitten with someone. "The song is about how you feel and what you want to say to someone you're totally in love with," the pop vocalist tells JSYK exclusively. "The words 'Your face is why I can never sleep in' are my favorite. I remember not minding waking up early, so I could get ready for that guy who made me feel that way!"
The video, inspired by the French short film 'The Red Balloon,' shows Maria finding a mesmerizing yellow balloon that eventually leads her to the boy of her dreams. "I see the balloon as a symbol of how things lead you in life to something, and for me it was my first love and how exciting it can be," Maria says. "It's still so new, fresh, and innocent! Declan (Whitebloom) and the entire team made me feel confident that I could do this video, and I am in love with how it came out."
Maria also got to choose her handsome suitor, something that her crew didn't let her play down. "I got to pick out my love interest in the video. It felt like Christmas!" she adds. "At the end of the filming, our scene came up when we were staring into each other's eyes and my producers (The Stereotypes, who are like big brothers to me) were making fun of me and kept telling me after every take that I needed to go up and kiss him!"
For now, Maria is simply excited to promote her new album, and show her fans her fresh video. Watch 'Starbucks Smile' below and keep your eyes and ears peeled for more new music from the rising pop star.
