The four-piece is no stranger to success. They've garnered close to 4 million views on YouTube for their video 'Cross My Heart' and been nominated for several MuchMusic Video Awards, as well as one Juno award. We don't expect anything less for their forthcoming full-length.
Recently, we chatted with Mike about the new album, the inspiration behind their new set of songs and their current U.S. trek. Find out what he had to say in our exclusive interview below.
Cambio: Has anyone in the band been to the Mariana Trench? Why did you call yourselves that?
Mike Ayley: We have yet to be to this particular ocean trench. Unbeknownst to most, the trench is named after us, not the other way around.
Cambio: Describe your new album in three words.
MA: Are. We. Crazy?
Cambio: What was the inspiration behind your new album?
MA: The new album is inspired by the concept of creating a dark fairy tale journey to the land Ever After and back.
Cambio: How is your new album, 'Ever After,' different than 'Masterpiece Theatre'?
MA: The album is more ambitious, and there is a very clear concept and vision for the entire record.
Cambio: If you each had to pick one album to listen to for the rest of your life, what would it be?
MA: Can we pick a box set so it lasts longer?
Cambio: What is your dream venue?
MA: Wembley, Carnegie Hall or Madison Square Garden would all do just fine.
Cambio: Name someone unexpected who you would you love to collaborate with.
MA: What about fellow Canadian Justin Bieber? Tough Question. Unexpected? It would be neat to see what a producer like Timbaland would do with one of our songs. We would probably get a completely unexpected result. Perfect!
Cambio: You're about to go on tour with Simple Plan, Forever the Sickest Kids and The Cab. Who will you prank first and what will you do?
MA: It's just a matter of days until we find out who the fastest gun in the West is. We have a few tricks up our sleeves.
