The Salvation Army was founded in 1865 and is not only one of the oldest charitable organizations, but operates in over 120 countries, making it one of the most far-reaching as well. The Red Kettle tradition during the holidays began in 1982 and has been going strong ever since. This year, The Salvation Army also has a free "Bellringer" app for the iPhone that allows users to virtually donate via text messages.
