Lady Gaga showed a different side of herself to fans - posting a makeup free photo of herself on Twitter.

Bet you weren't expecting that?

While we've grown accustomed to seeing Lady Gaga in over-the-top costumes, complete with wacky hair, hats, makeup, and any number of accessories and props, this stripped down version is pretty refreshing.

And real.

Sometimes it's hard to know what's real about an artist, after you see them so much as the characters that they play on stage.

Lady Gaga seems to be taking her self-imposed blackout from the media pretty seriously, as she recently told Oprah that she wouldn't be doing any interviews for awhile.

She told Oprah: "Other than this interview, Oprah, I do not intend to speak to anyone for a very long time. The latest thing I do is I don't read a damn thing. No press, no television, if my mom calls and says, 'Did you hear about?' I don't want to know nothing about anything that is going on in relation to music. I shut it all off."

It's likely that after all of her performances and interviews, she just needs some downtime to recharge and rest.

Lady Gaga posted the no makeup photo on Twitter last night, with the caption, "Have a beautiful day!!"

And beautiful she is, don't you think?

Her legions of "Little Monsters" were quick to respond to the makeup-free photo with nothing but rave reviews.

Lady Gaga turns 26 tomorrow - could she be entering a new chapter in her life and career?

In other Gaga news, she says she is "proud" to have won the Outstanding Music Artist award at the Gay & Lesbian Alliance Against Defamation (GLAAD) Media Awards on Saturday.

Lady Gaga took to Twitter to write: ''I'm so proud to win 'Outstanding Artist' for Born This Way album at GLAAD Media Awards. Thank you so much to your organization."

She added, "Lets remind the world that the zeitgeist continues to beckon for equality+change. The relevancy of freedom, the ying yang of hatred+love"
