1D's Louis Tomlinson, Harry Styles, Zayn Malik, Liam Payne and Niall Horan just announced the big concert date for later this year in NYC.
One Direction's website shares:
"One Direction have announced a massive show in New York to finish off an amazing year! Due to overwhelming popular demand, having completely sold out their May/June tour of North America, the band will headline the prestigious Madison Square Garden in New York City on December 3, 2012. Tickets will go on general sale at 5pm EST on Friday April 6, 2012."
Hottest ticket around these days, wouldn't you say?
1D's May/June 2012 tour sold out within minutes of going on sale, so adding another mega huge venue and date seemed an obvious decision.
What a way to end what's been a colossal year for the band.
Niall Horan noted:
"We are so happy to be playing Madison Square Garden. To be headlining our OWN show in a venue that has played host to countless legendary acts that we have grown up listening to and adore is obviously a dream come true for us all. We can't wait to play for our fans on December 3rd."
For the uninitiated, One Direction got their start in 2010 - as solo singers - on The X-Factor UK before Simon Cowell put them together in a band.
From that point on, they've been a force to be reckoned with.
The band made history in the U.S. when their debut album 'Up All Night' landed at #1 on the Billboard 200 - making them the first British group ever to debut at #1 with their first album!
One Direction is everywhere these days - as they'll guest star on the April 7 episode of 'iCarly' and will serve as musical guests on Saturday Night Live on the same night.
The band is so busy, they had to turn down an offer from First Lady Michelle Obama!
Mrs. Obama invited 1D to attend the White House's annual Easter Egg Roll, but their schedule kept them from making the event.
Politico.com reports that the band were invited after Michelle Obama saw their performance at the Kids' Choice Awards, with a rep noting they had to decline the invitation "due to prior commitments."
Their rep later added that One Direction "would love" to visit the White House during their tour.
