Teen Savvy Blog: Daley, K'la & Jhene Aiko...Artists You Should Know
Breaths of fresh air to Hip Hop and R&B Soul, these artists choose to not use gimmicks when expressing their craft... which is probably why you never hear them on your favorite radio stations.
"You're the perfect plan I never thought of," sings Daley on his ballad "Alone Together" with Marsha Ambrosius; a song reminiscent of something released when R&B was once a dominant force.
Working with everyone from David Banner to Gorillaz, Daley dominates your speakers with smooth lyrics topped off with his soothing vocals.
K'la burst on the scene in what seemed like an overnight sensation scenario sampling Bob Marley's classic, "Turn Your Lights Down Low" for her debut single "All Your Love". K'la's no holds barred approach is what her fans seem to love about her the most. Not only is her music fun, every song conveys a message. Whether the lyrics are related to love or just having a good time there is a connection made through her music. Like many other artist that are new on the scene she decided to release mix-tapes to get her music to new and already established supporters. The Coldest Winter Ever and Freedom both set the stage for what is to come of her debut album. The Def Jam signee calls Gary, Indiana her home but, you couldn't tell from her street savvy lyrics.
Many do not realize that Aiko began her career as an affiliate of B2K at the height of their success in the early 2000s. Jhene Aiko was in no way an overnight super success having released an album in 2003 titled 'No L.O.V.E.' that reached number 5 on the U.S. R&B chart. Only 15 then her 2011 release, 'Sailing Souls' has more of a soulful vibe. Similar to label mate K'la, Aiko creates music with a message contrary to what is considered popular music today while Daley does the same helping to fill the void in authentic male R&B vocalist.
Every year new artists emerge on the scene and dominate, this year is theirs.
