Jessica started playing the piano when she was just four years old and writing her own music at age 10. At NYU, Jessica's mentor Swizz Beatz taught her to stay true to herself as an artist. The super-talented singer-songwriter hopes to inspire others through her music.
5) Have you ever thought of a song in an odd or crazy place outside of the studio?
"I was actually at the dentist last week, and I had this melody in my head the whole time, and suddenly it came to me. You know when you're on that laughing gas and you're a little loopy? And I'm thinking of it and I told the dentist, 'You need to stop. You need to take out my cell phone!' I write it in the notes section of the IPhone and I write the lyrics."
4) What was it like getting the opportunity to write a song for JoJo?
"I didn't expect it at all. We [actually] wrote it for my project. It's called 'Limbo,' and it was so true to what I was feeling at the time. About a week or so later, the producer called me and was like, 'JoJo loves your record and she wants to record it,' and I was like, 'What?!' A week later, I heard her version, and I was so impressed. And she is a wonderful artist, so it was amazing."
3) How does it feel to be called "the next Mariah Carey?"
"It feels great, but it's something that is a lot to live up to, and I hope that I just do what I do and people relate to it in whatever way. I look up to her in every regard---her style, her vocals, her music, her writing, everything. She was always graceful, always humble, always kind, and her music was always touching. Beyoncé is the ultimate performer, so I look up to her, and also Alicia Keys because I love playing the piano. They're all different and they're all incredible."
2) What is something that your fans don't know about you?
"My fans don't know that I come off very talkative and bubbly, but inside I am actually very introverted and shy. I always try to put myself out there, but I mainly speak through my music."
1) Who is your favorite person to follow on Twitter?
"I follow Jim Carrey because he's pretty funny. I follow Kim Kardashian because I like her makeup tips. I also follow Bieber on Twitter--I'm a Belieber. He posts rehearsals and stuff, and I always think it's awesome to check those out."
