An insider calls their split "inevitable", but tells UsWeekly that there's no bad blood between the Vampire Diaries' duo, who dated for three years.
"There was no mean spiritedness behind either of their motives," the source says of the costars' decision to call it quits. "The relationship kind of brewed out of a friendship and the fact that they had to get into a romance for the show."
But their ten year age gap may have played a factor in their relationship's demise, as 24-year-old Nina is a different place than Ian, 34.
"I think she decided she wanted to experience other things," the source tells Us.
Perhaps that was what Ian was alluding to when he shared this quote yesterday on Twitter: "A THOUGHT FOR TODAY: People change and forget to tell each other," he wrote.
We wish them both the best!
