Paul Wesley says he and Ian Somerhalder are "best buddies," and dishes on the Vampire Diaries cast's "grueling" production schedule in Atlanta. Nina Dobrev isn't the only Vampire Diaries star who has a super close relationship with Ian Somerhalder (even though they're not dating anymore).

Paul Wesley, who plays his brother Stefan on the show, seems to consider him somewhat of a sibling off-set as well.

"We've become really good buddies," Paul told Parade. "I know every single thing about him on every possible level. I've never done a television series for this long, and it's kind of like the longest relationship you'll ever have - other than my family and my wife. I feel like I know the good, the bad, the ugly, and the great about everyone in the cast - and they can say the same about me!"

Speaking of the CW show, Paul dished to the mag about what he loves most about playing his "undead" character.

"My favorite part about playing Stefan is when he gets to explore his own darkness," Paul said. "I really enjoy finding flaws in the hero, and I think Stefan is the hero of the story in a sense. I love finding his faults and what makes him tick. I definitely prefer the dark Stefan."

And while he certainly loves his Vampire Diaries gig, Paul referred to filming the show, which shoots in Atlanta, as "really hard work."

"It's a lot of night shoots and grueling schedules, so levity is definitely something we need every once and awhile in order to make it sustainable," Paul continued. "There's definitely a lot of silliness that ensues on set!"

The cast is currently enjoying some time off from shooting the show, after wrapping season 4 a couple of weeks ago.

The Vampire Diaries season 4 finale airs May 16, and season 5 is set to kick off this fall.
